The monographic exhibition, ‘Mario Bellini: Designer’, presented a selection of about fifty works conceived and executed in over twenty-five years of design pratice. The New York Museum of Modern Art also invited the architect to design the exhibition itself, thus enabling him to create a coherent framework for variously sized objects, machines and forniture arranged in one space. The space is organizated round the focal point of a semicircular platform with other platforms radiating from it. The circular plan of these platforms intersects with a Cartesian grid of pedestal each supporting an office machine or small object. The square grid an a circular space are linked by a long narrow arcade running diagonally across the exhibition space; this also serves as the entrance.
